Just as soon as I said that the LG G Pad 8.3 GPe has been the only Google Play edition device to get Android Lollipop, news dropped that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Sony Xperia Z Ultra GPe is now available. If you happen to own this gargantuan stock Android device, the update should be available as an OTA update now or very shortly. The update measures 397MB, which I guess is decidedly small given that Android Lollipop is a complete overhaul graphically, but is packed with tons of Z Ultra specific improvements like an updated battery saving mode and better performance.
We’ll be very interested to see how Android Lollipop performs on the first device to rock a Snapdragon 800, which by today’s standards is still a very formidable hardware configuration. Let us know if you have downloaded this update and installed it, otherwise keep hitting that “Check for Updates” button.
