Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 in 60+ device design pipelines this year, with LG, OPPO, Sony, Motorola and others on-board

Much of what has been written over the last few weeks in regards to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor was negative. Not in the grand scheme of things, but due to information that Samsung wouldn’t be using the chip because it over heats. Just last week Qualcomm said it would be not working with one of their largest partners on this years 810. We all assumed that was Samsung. Other indicators pointed to a revision to the chip was headed to Samsung that addressed the issues they said they had. I am still not all that convinced it had overheating issues so much so as I think Samsung is looking to utilize their own in-house Exynos chip exclusively instead of doing the split like they have over the years.

The loss of Samsung isn’t going to be the end-all of it though as a Qualcomm news release post this morning confirms over 60 premium flagship devices are in the pipeline for use with the Snapdragon 810. The LG G Flex 2 and Xiaomi Mi Note Pro being the most recently official devices named. The news release is loaded with comments from various founders, chairmen, presidents and vice presidents from Sony, Motorola, Oppo and Microsoft all stating how excited they are to be working with Qualcomm and the Snapdragon 810.

“OPPO is committed to delivering to our users the most delightful electronic experience, that is full of surprises through meticulous designs as well as smart technology,” said Sky Li, vice president of OPPO and managing director of International Mobile Business. “We’re excited to collaborate with Qualcomm Technologies on our Snapdragon 810-based devices to drive new value in the premium tier for our customers in 2015.”

“The LG Flex2 is designed to represent a new class of innovation at the premium tier with the dynamically curved design, a richer feature set and faster performance than the previous generation,” said Chris Yie, vice president, head of marketing communications at LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “With an advanced feature set and stunning multimedia support, the Snapdragon 810 provides us with a tremendous foundation to enable the most advanced mobile experiences for consumers.”

No doubt this was more of a reassurance release that Qualcomm isn’t in a heap of trouble with the 810 and that the loss of Samsung won’t be the end of the world for the leading mobile processor manufacture. It still ins’t official from Samsung or Qualcomm that the 810 won’t be used, but indicators certainly seem to point to that notion, especially with the news post making no mention for or against it from the largest Android device manufacturer currently. It should be interesting to see what happen’s with Samsung this year and the Galaxy S6.
