The original Pebble smartwatch campaign still stands as one of the defining success stories of Kickstarter, raising over $10 million to fund what can only be described as one of the most recognizable smartwatches to date. Since then, Pebble has launched one primarily cosmetic update in the Pebble Steel, and made plenty of little strides in the area of software updates. But it’s clear that Pebble has been working on something in the background, and that ‘thing’ is the Pebble Time, a brand-new smartwatch complete with a colour e-ink screen.
While the Pebble Time stays with the 4 button layout that the Pebble popularized, it also introduces a new navigation format called Pebble Timeline, designed to be more intuitive for navigating between daily activities and information – Pebble says this will eventually be available for the original Pebble and Pebble Steel. Unsurprisingly, Pebble is once again turning to Kickstarter to help find the Pebble Time, and its popularity only seems to have grown – the Pebble Time has eclipsed the $500,000 target and is now sitting at $8,196,055 with 38,584 backers in less than 24 hours (at the time of writing). Talk about star power.
