Moto E 2nd Gen makes its way to press in Motorola’s Mystery Box

Last week Motorola pushed out an email to select members of the press to let them know that a box would be on the way and set for delivery on the 25th of February. The delivery would coincide with an exciting announcement. The packages are arriving and inside a very well planned out home-built personal stage kit is a the next Moto E from Motorola.

Pretty clever really. We weren’t exactly sure what Motorola would be announcing, but the 2nd gen Moto E was certainly on the list of potentials and that is exactly what they are announcing with a press event in-a-box. It comes packed with a stage and even a personal cut out of Motorola’s President Rick Osterloh to help walk you through the new device. The kit lets those lucky enough to get one a full on personal press event with a complete walk though of the device, features and a bit more. Yes, there is a device as well. While pretty fun and exciting for the ones that got it, the rest of us just want to know what the next-gen device brings to the table.

The Moto E 2nd Gen will bring a larger display than its predecessor with a 4.5-inch qHD screen with a resolution of 540 x 960. It packs in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM 5MP rear facing camera, a front facing camera, 2390 mAh battery (mixed usage of 24 hours), 8GB on-board storage and 4G LTE. There is a second variant of the device that is 3G only. It offers many of the same features except the processor is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 quad-core at 1.2GHz.

Additionally the Moto E 2nd gen will also have a set of customization options with interchangeable multi-colored Motorola Bands and Motorola Grip Shell cases.

While cool, the big news is that you can get the 4G LTE variant in black or white for $149.99 out-of-pocket with no contract. The 3G variant isn’t available just yet, but is set to be released at $119.99
