Wearable devices are becoming more and more popular as time moves forward. See what I did there? Anywho, we are all pretty familiar with Android Wear, Samsung’s Tizen and the upcoming Apple watch. In the past we had a few off shoot attempts from the likes of Motorola and others that didn’t really take flight. I do distinctly remember people porting Angry birds to some of them though. Now a new gaming studio has been created whose sole purpose and focus will be creating games for the wearable sector.
“We see wearable tech as the most exciting new platform of 2015,†said Aki Järvilehto, CEO and co-founder of Everywear Games. “As developers, this year presents an unrivalled opportunity to craft completely original gaming experiences for a global audience.â€
The Helsinki-based studio was formed by veteran executives who have worked with the likes of Remedy, Digital Chocolate and Rovio. They aim to create fresh gaming experiences optimized for smartwatch wearers around the globe that will fit naturally into everyday life.
“It’s energizing to do something that has never been done before. The potential for natively developed games on wearables is limitless,†said Mika Tammenkoski, CTO and co-founder of Everywear Games. “We’re striving to perfect the wearable gameplay experience.â€
I have a feeling we will see a number of fitness geared games and competition style apps, but I am hoping for some fun and simple single tap type games too. No, I don’t want Flappy Birds on wrist, but I wouldn’t mind seeing some endless runners, jumpers and maybe Tetris. If you have a nack for development, 2D / 3D animation, Objective-C or are a game designer, Everywhere Games is looking for you.
