Do you own a Samsung Captivate, HTC Aria, HTC Inspire 4G, or many of the Android devices available from AT&T? Have you tried to download apps or games from random websites like Amazon’s Appstore. Up until now that would have been impossible without rooting your device and changing a file or two. While this is traditional for most people, there are a select few that like to keep their devices stock and therefore rely on carriers and manufacturers for updates and functionality.
The ability to download apks from third party sources, or sideload, is coming to certain AT&T devices. This update will be rolling out via OTA and will be coming to HTC Aria, HTC Inspire 4G and Samsung Captivate owners starting today. As some may know the new Samsung Infuse 4G comes with this feature straight out of the box and is the first AT&T phone to date to come with this feature. If you have one of the devices listed you’ll soon be able to enjoy one of the many features that rooted users have been enjoying without the risk of causing harm to your device.
