Samsung Galaxy S II will be getting Ice Cream Sandwich, Someday

As everyone still sits around waiting and wondering if their carrier will sell the Galaxy Nexus or not, we often have other thoughts that run through our mind. Questions like  – Can I wait that long? or what other device can I get that will give me Ice Cream Sandwich? The manufacturer announcements for ICS compatible devices has been growing ever so slowly. We have heard of various devices slated to get ICS with no time frame in mind. Same goes with the tweet that was just sent out by @Samsunguk. They confirm the Galaxy S II will be getting an ICS update with no confirmed dates yet. The date part should be no surprise really. There is a lot of work to be done to bring the icy goodness to other devices.

The tweet does fail to mention anything about other carrier brands though. Since this is the Samsung UK twitter account it doesn’t mean squat for the U.S. based versions. We have seen the original Galaxy S get updates long before there U.S. based counter parts ever even got a whiff of anything. I take this staement as good news for two reasons though. The UK Galaxy S II will get some ICS eventually. I would image no sooner than at least 6 months from the drop of the nexus. Also, with a real build for the international version, devs would have something else to work with to bring it states side.
