With the onslaught of Android devices that have been released this year, Google’s own child is no doubt at the top of the pack. With the phone being available on 2 of the major carriers already and a release set for Sprint later this year, Verizon seems to be missing the boat. On the Nexus One ordering page it is evident that the phone will no doubt be available for purchase, but there is no official date set as of this time. Many believed the Big Red would release the phone during its moment at CTIA, however to many people’s surprise nothing big as far as phones came out of the press release (the biggest things on Verizon’s list included Skype ability and the advancement of its network).
Is the lack of the Nexus One really hurting them though? With Motorola’s Droid being one of the best selling Android devices to date, I would argue not. Yet the number of people that want either an HTC or HTC/Google branded Android device on Verizon seems to suggest otherwise. For many, the Nexus One meets these wants.
The CTIA event proved to be a big disappointment for many Verizon customers, and with the launch of Verizon 2.0 set for the 28th of this month, people are hoping the phone will be released then. 2.0 not only would be a perfect time for the phone launch but also a good point in time to launch another device. The Droid went up for purchase about 6 months ago; if the Nexus One were to be released before this month is out, it would give Verizon plenty of time to get ready for the launch of HTC’s Incredible at the end of this year. Both phone launches would come at a great time, seeing as the kiddies want a new device for summer and others will want something shiny and new to open up on Christmas.
In any case, Verizon is missing out on a particular subset of customers that are both waiting and wanting to join “America’s largest 3G networkâ€.
With the launch and announcement of Sprint’s 4G mobile monster is there still time for Verizon to get back in the game though?
