Google TV set to update YouTube app as part of the ‘Big Announcement’ Tomorrow

We just shared with you that Google TV is set to make some new ‘Big Announcements‘ starting tomorrow. Now it looks like the cat is out of the bag for at least one of them. We can only hope that this is the tip of the ice berg. It looks like the YouTube app will be getting a refreshed look and update. Hopefully this isn’t the most exciting part of what is to come.

The app will be updating for GTV owners via the market app and bring with it some new additions. It will bring added performance enhancements, faster and smoother navigation and a new section dubbed ‘ Discover.’ Allowing you to to browse channels by category. Helping you discover more of the great YouTube content that you long for.

They are also making improvements to increase your interactions with the channels you already enjoy so much. You will soon be presented with related videos from the same user. This is a pretty nice addition really. You will also be able to use your up and down arrow keys to see the info screen where you can give the thumbs up or down, leave a comment, or add it to your playlist.

While the update is geared towards your channel subscriptions and helping you discover more, I am still not all that thrilled about it. There still seems to be something missing for me. I really miss the old YouTube style. I miss being able to find things easily via a web based approached. Since the YouTube app and web based interface defaults to the new GTV look, I personally don’t use it anymore. I miss seeing the free movies that are available and the constant UI that I am used to.

So the question is not if the update is an improvement for GTV users. The real question is, have they streamlined it and made other aspects of YouTube the focal point and detoured you from the app entirely via your GTV? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. We are very interested to know.
