Android fragmentation is a huge debate. Many blame
Google, others blame the carriers and other blame the manufacturers. Where you place the blame is up to you, but the simple fact is that Google will continue to reinvent Android and continue moving forward. Even with
Ice Cream Sandwich just hitting the scene very recently, there is already talk of
Jelly Bean, Android 5.0, on the horizon.
The Verge says they have a trusted source that indeed does label the next Android iteration as Jelly bean, staying true to the sweets line up of course. Google is no stranger to dropping hints hear and there, just enough to make us want to know more. They are at
MWC and coyly have a large bowl of Jelly Beans sitting out. Coincident? We think not. When they asked Any Rubin what the story was behind the clever little treat, he declined to comment. Making the whole secret of Jelly bean even more desirable. It’s like a conspiracy theory that keeps us searching for more information.
The Jelly Bean OS version has been rumored to be announced as early as this summer. It is supposedly going to bring phones and tablets closer together. JB will also be even better optimized for tablet use and other rumors peg this as the OS version that will land on laptops and desktops as well. Combine Jelly Bean with rumors of the Galaxy S III, the latest offerings from HTC and LG, along with more quad-core goodness and this is shaping up to be a rocking year for Android.
