In the wonderful world of custom ROMs, the devs can only go so far with out source for the device for a certain Android build. Not that it has ever stopped them from putting in countless hours to make something work, it just helps when they have a base. While many manufacturers, cough – Motorola-cough, continue to keep their devices locked down and refuse to share anything to help the community improve their product’s, HTC takes a completely different approach. Offering as much up to the community as possible. In recent months we have seen a huge number of devices get added to the bootloader unlock tool, even the ancient HTC Magic. We have seen them release API’s for Beats audio and yesterday, they drop the ICS kernel source code for the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XE and HTC Vivid. Giving the developers even more to work with and help them solve some of the issues they have been faced with.
For those of you that build ROMs or build more customized kernels, feel free to go snag the latest additions. It is pretty easy to pick. Just point your browser to HTCDev.com and locate the device kernel you are after. Happy Coding.
