One of the biggest downsides to newly released quad-core phones these days is that Verizon and AT&T’s LTE networks aren’t compatible with NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 Processor. This is a major downfall, as seen from HTC’s One X, as AT&T has to settle for a slightly modified dual-core Snapdragon S4 handset rather than the original quad-core device with a Tegra 3 Processor.
NVIDIA has notified the public today and stated that LTE-compatible Tegra 3 phones will be made available starting sometime in Q3 2012. Not many details were leaked, but the new Tegra 3+ (or Tegra+LTE) should be much faster than the original Tegra 3 chipset. NVIDIA’s General Manager Mike Rayfield said that it would be a “significant bump” from the original Tegra 3 and will be of “high performance.”
There’s no word on if these processors will be introduced as a totally new lineup of chipsets from NVIDIA, nor was there a release date. However, considering NVIDIA’s past success with the Tegra 3, there’s no doubt that these new processors will be just as fast, if not, faster.
