AT&T shared data plans scheduled to launch August 23
Back in the middle of July AT&T formally announced their upcoming shared data plans to the world. Offer up customers a way to purchase a set amount of data that all lines on an account can utilize versus having to purchase data packages on a pre-line basis. Needless to say they are a bit confusing and can easily rack up your bill instead of saving you money. Unlike Verizon though, AT&T has mentioned that the new pooled data plans will be an option rather than a requirement for new customers. They fully plan to continue to offer per line data packages and keep grandfathers data plans around, at least for now.
When AT&T announced the new shared plans they failed to mention when they would be available and hit the system. Today they have announced their availability for August 23rd. While it all sounded great in theory long before they were offered, they seem a bit more intricate, confusing and costly. Certainly there will be many people who love them and can use it, but we don’t see it going big time until prices are a bit lower.
What is your take on the new shared plans? Are Verizon and AT&T headed in the right direction, or should they have worked out better single line plans first?
