If you used Google Maps from a browser today, you’d notice something new. A new feature pops up asking if you want to Start Treasure Hunting:
When you click Try it now, the treasure hunt begins and you’ll notice that the map you’re used to seeing now looks like an old 18th century treasure map. Major highways are shown without labels as are lakes and only town names have labels.
This is much different than the traditional map we’ve all become accustomed to. You can toggle between Map and Treasure Modes by click their respective buttons in the upper right.
Additionally, when you’re in Treasure Mode and drag the yellow man for Street View, you’ll notice that it’s a telescope instead. The view has rounded edges as if you’re looking through a telescope and it’s in an old-looking sepia tone like old photographs.
In addition to Google Nose, Google gave us another Happy April Fools’ Day!
