Galaxy Gear To Become Compatible With Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3, And Note 2 At The End Of October

galaxy gearThe Samsung Galaxy Gear smart watch launched to much fanfare at IFA earlier this year, and though it boasted impressive build quality and a bucket-load of features, one resounding complaint was the fact that it would only be compatible with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 at first. Samsung has made it clear that older Samsung phones would become compatible with the smart watch after they get a firmware update, but we haven’t heard much about that, until today.

The Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 and Note 2 will be getting Galaxy Gear compatibility in an Android 4.3 update, which implies that the long awaited Android 4.3 update is finally almost ready to grace these Samsung phones. As well as these phones, the Galaxy S4 Mini, Mega 5.8, Mega 6.3 and Galaxy S4 Zoom will also be Galaxy Gear-ready with an update at the end of October. That rounds out Samsung’s more recent line-up so we wonder if the Galaxy Gear’s compatibility ends here or if Samsung has something else up its sleeve for the first generation smart watch.

With a 1.63-inch touchscreen and a 1.9MP mounted camera, the Galaxy Gear definitely looks the part of a smart watch and has a lot of impressive features, but poor battery life and a lack of compatibility ultimately leave it looking a bit confused as a smartphone companion. Are any owners of these Samsung devices going to jump on the Galaxy Gear bandwagon? Let us know what you think about Samsung’s first smart watch.
