[RUMOUR] HTC Reportedly Scaling Back Production, Even Though It Says It Hasn’t

HTCYet another piece of unfortunate information about HTC has leaked out where it is reported that a HTC factory in the company’s native Taiwan was seen closed and locked up. When asked about the closed facility, the smartphone manufacturer responded that “HTC is not shutting down nor has plans to sell any of its factory assets”. HTC’s Chief Marketing Officer, Ben Ho, further said that “Like any manufacturer, we do volume planning to optimize our lines, our manufacturing and production facilities.” While that much might be true, it is undeniable that demand for HTC’s smartphones have declined recently, even with the recent launch of its phablet, the One Max.

With word that HTC is apparently working on both a tablet and a smart watch, we can hope that this is the right path to getting HTC back to the big leagues, but even with CEO Peter Chou stepping down his duties to focus on smartphone development, there may be a chance the company is spreading itself too thin over too many projects. Only time will tell; all we’ll say is “Here’s To Change”.

Is HTC doing the right thing by moving into tablets and smart watches before the company has recovered its smartphone business? Let us know what you think.
