Modern Combat 4 makes a brief appearance, but gets pulled because of download Issues

Late last night the social networks were lighting up with news that Gameloft had released Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour. I saw it stream past my feeds and hit the magical button to go take a gander. I read through the description, checked out some comments and debated on buying it then, or waiting till the morning. I decided to wait and it looks like that might have been a good idea.

Gameloft has since pulled the highly anticipate title off the Play Store.  Sound familiar? Rockstar Games had to make a similar move not to long ago with Grand Theft Auto Vice City. Their issue came from a validation problem. Of course since I have been eagerly waiting for the arrival of Modern Combat 4, I reached out to a friend at Gameloft. They were kind enough to give me an answer and a statement about the reason it was pulled.

“We have decided to deactivate temporarily Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour from Google Play, until the download conditions are back to normal. Rest assured that you will be notified as soon as the game is back on the store. Thank you for your understanding”.

It sounds like the game had some downloading issues. I assume this isn’t the initial download, but more so the asset files that the game needs to download separately in order to play. We all know those files can be well over 1GB in size, and if memory serves me from last night, this one had something like 1.48GB of additional files to download.

Since I didn’t pull the trigger last night, I can only go on previous experience about what could be holding it up. Gameloft recently started using the Play Stores additional download ability for hosting and downloading of additional files. You might have noticed that on some games more recently. It is a great offer from Google for developers, but I personally have already seen the strain it causes. For one, it seems to download these much larger files at a much slower rate. Took nearly 3 hours to get the additional files for one game. Where as when the game was pulling the files from Gameloft servers, it only took 20 or 30 minutes. Still not instant playing, but much better. I imagine that this might be part of the issues that they are facing with the download conditions not being ideal.

On a brighter note though, when Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour does make it back to the Play Store you will be happy to know that it is fully compatible with the MOGA controller. I have recently acquired one of these awesome little controller for testing and have been pretty pleased with it over the last few days. As you can see in the images below, MC4 is listed in the games section of the MOGA Pivot app. That just makes this title that much exciting for me.

For those of you that managed to get your hands on the game before it was pulled down, what do you think of it? Is it the best Modern Combat release yet? Let me know, I am eager to hear your thoughts. For the rest of us that missed it, we will keep you posted when we see it go back up.
