[POLL] Who Do You Think Is Making The Next Nexus Smartphone?

nexusTonight has been an interesting night in the rumour-sphere. The most discussion of course is focussing around a rumour that Motorola is possibly making a Nexus device due in Q4 this year. However, no talk about these Google devices could be without a mention of LG who has been rumoured to be making the Nexus 5 for as long as anyone cares to remember. This news of Motorola, however, does throw a spanner in those works as Q4 2013 is precisely the time period for when the Nexus 5 was expected to be released, opening up the very big possibility that Motorola is in fact the manufacturer in question. There is an alternative theory, which is that Motorola is actually making a refresh of the Nexus 4, however this rumour is so far largely hearsay.

My guess is that LG is still making the Nexus 5 and Motorola is actually making a refreshed Nexus 4 (let’s call this the Nexus 4-2). The primary reason I still believe LG is making the Nexus 5 is due to the fact that they just released the LG G2; if we jump back 12 months, LG had just released the LG Optimus G and lo and behold, one month later, the Nexus 4 was released with suspiciously similar specifications. If that same progression occurs again, and note that a Nexus 5 would be exactly the same size as the LG G2, then a LG Nexus 5 release in the next month or two would not at all be out of the question.

So why wouldn’t LG refresh the Nexus 4 themselves? Well, that’s where the theory starts to break down, particular when you consider that both phones would be released at the same time. A Nexus 5 and 4-2 being released at the same time wouldn’t be ideal, but if the Nexus 4-2 was even cheaper than the original Nexus 4, then it would be entirely possible to market both phones simultaneously.

This is obviously all pure conjecture, particularly as we’re basing this off Taylor Wimberly’s one G+ post (though he hasn’t been wrong about the Moto X yet), but it does raise a very interesting question, a question that we’d like to pose to you, our readers: who do you think will manufacturer the next Nexus phone, and what do you think the phone will be?
