T-Mobile just recently announced another new program aimed at helping consumers SCORE! better deals on phones. Since the big moves, consumer bought their devices out right and paid for them in installments on their monthly statements. It cut the, for the most part, the larger out-of-pocket charges needed to get your hands on a new device. It was a big topic of debate in the early years before John Legere took over when T-Mobile first started doing it. Mainly because people were so used to discounted phones with contracts that hearing “Full price” and “No Contract” was a difficult conversation piece. The latest program, SCORE! is looking to lessen that pain by letting consumers pay a small monthly fee to get discounts on future purchases.
“SCORE! is a radically new Un-carrier approach to locking in lower costs on your next smartphone,†said John Legere, president and CEO for T-Mobile. “And, it’s yet another breakthrough improvement over the old-school carriers’ restrictive service contracts, hidden subsidy costs and slooooow upgrades.â€
Her is how it works out. You opt in for the SCORE! program and pay $5 a month on your statement. As the months progress, you earn free devices, or the a price break on others. T-Mobile elaborates on it a little with a few examples. If you pay your $5 a month for 6 months ($30) you can grab a Alcatel ONETOUCH Evolve 2 for free. That devices current retail is $80, so you save $50. Pretty slick offer for those with kids really. If a lower-end device isn’t in your future, the program extends beyond that depending on the number of months you pay into it. Pay for 12 months, or $60, and you can take $150 off the cost of a Samsung Galaxy Note 4Â or Nexus 6. Those are just the examples for today’s devices. In six months and a year from now there will be different devices.
T-Mobile is extending the new program beyond the traditional post paid customers and are making available for pre-paid customers as well. If you are looking to help knock the price down on a device for next year, getting in on the program now would be the best course of action. Check out the details at T-Mobile.com.
