Some of my more tenured readers will remember a time when I started offering up a
Chrome Web App or Extension everyday. Some helped you expand the use of your device, some were just helpful for personal use and others were just for fun. Granted Google Chrome is not Android, many recent updates to how the Web Market looks and works will sure make you think that it is. I personally bailed on Chrome for a while after an update rendered me useless essentially. I have since returned and have seen many wonderful things and many changes that make the user experience that much better. Since
Google is all our home away from home, we are going to start reinstating the Chrome Web App articles.
The first one that I thought would be very beneficial to many users as well as myself would be the Kindle Cloud Reader. With the recent release of the
Kindle Fire and many people using the Android
Kindle app, having another option for reading your favorite books is nice. The dynamic is the same as Google books, buy and download once and you can read it everywhere. The layout of the web app is similar to the Android app and I assume the Kindle Fire as well. You have the same page customization available to change the text size, color, font size, spacing, background color and more.
The Cloud Reader also allows you to view all of your notes, highlights and bookmarks that you have made in the Kindle app or on your current Kindle device. You will be able to sync your bookmarks and last page read across all Kindle apps and devices right to the cloud. Giving you the ability to start a book on your Android device, pick up where you left off on your PC and finish it up on your Kindle Fire all without skipping a beat or spending time searching for your spot again.
On to one of the more important parts, offline reading. The current book you are reading is made available offline automatically and you can choose a book for offline reading at anytime. This is great for anyone that does a lot of traveling and wants to switch between devices to conserve battery on one device and use another with ease.
I think anyone with a Kindle account should have this app installed on their Chrome browser immediately. The app is free for all users, however it does require an Amazon Kindle account to log in and sync with. I am certain you expected that already. If you are a big Kindle user, head into the Chrome Web Store, pick up the Kindle Cloud Reader and start enjoying your books in more places.
