A CPU war is brewing

Once upon a time, there was one CPU architecture for Android, ARM. With the announcement of Google TV running Intel Atom’s (X86) processors that has changed. Intel is a bit late entering the smartphone arena, and their entrance is being challenged.

NVIDIA’s CEO has said that there’s no chance the Atom Z6 processor could be successful, saying “You could give an elephant a diet but it’s still an elephant.” . NVIDIA has been trying to push it’s Tegra 2 chipset which is powered by a dual core ARM cortex A9.

The Tegra 2 is mighty impressive, and has been demoed recently on a prototype tablet at Google I/O. At the end of the day the consumer can sit back and relax while the two powerhouses go at it, in the end the user will benefit from the competition. Let this be the start of a CPU war.
