Android and the G1 Turned 5 Today. Let’s Celebrate!

android-G1-birthday

5 years ago today, Google unveiled a new device they were working on called the G1. On the G1 there was this new mobile OS called Android. Little did they know they were changing history.

The HTC G1, or also referred to as the T-Mobile G1, set out to change the mobile platform and it did just that. Android offered a completely different mobile experience from iOS, and even had features in it that iOS finally got this year. The G1 was super slow and cartoony for today’s standard, but back then, it was something we wanted because we did not want to jump on that iPhone bandwagon.

Specs

  • 528 MHz ARM 11 processor
  • 320 x 480 pixels, 3.2 inches (~180 ppi pixel density)
  • 3.15 MP, 2048×1536 pixels, autofocus camera
  • Li-Ion 1150 mAh battery
  • Android 1.0 {Cupcake}

Android has come a long way since its launch, and being that it is the top OS in the mobile market will only make the next 5 years that much easier. Check out my ridiculous video below celebrating Android and the G1. Let us know your thoughts on the birthday.
