App Review: gPad Remote, an Android Remote App for Your PC

gPad is an Android powered remote control application that allows you to virtually control a PC through a Wi-Fi or USB connection. The application was developed and is maintained by MOBiSTERS. They have taken a simple idea of controlling your PC/MAC, and added a huge amount of flare.

As you can see there is a remote called “tOuchpad.” This will launch a simple touch pad control screen that accommodates a left and right mouse click button. If you press the menu key on your device you will get a keyboard that drops down from the top of your screen. This is very handy for quick searching, heading to a webpage, or even a quick reply to a GChat conversation. The touch pad itself is extremely responsive. The mouse movement will depend on how fast you move your finger across the screen, if you drag slowly it won’t move far, but if you drag quickly it can easily cover a screen in one swipe. With the touch pad you also gain a scrolling ability much the Macbook’s, drag two fingers across your phone’s screen to scroll up or down on a webpage or doc. Alternatively there is also a scroll wheel-looking thing on the right hand side of the touchpad that allows you to also scroll through docs or other various actions similar. Even if this is all this application can do, it is completely worth having. But wait, there’s more! (I love infomercials.)

We also have a full number keypad on the left. In the center we have a full control application for running power point presentations. On the right we have a customized remote for running your Picasa slide shows. So far we 5 different remote control screens available for various function that most people use. Let’s add just a few more to the mix real quick:

gPad offers you an import section too. You have controls for games, multimedia, business, photos and general. Each category will offer you custom made remotes for various programs or application you might use on a daily basis. The image on the far right doesn’t need to be explained, but it is a controller for running your VLC media player.

So far so good right? I hope you are seeing something that would make your life easier. If something here doesn’t do exactly what you want, or you use another application other than what is available, that’s ok. You can build and import your own custom controller too! Then feel free to share your controller with other users so they can benefit from your creation or you can keep it all to yourself. Either way, we are all huge fans of customization for our Android phones. MOBiSTERS has certainly done a good job giving us that much needed benefit.

I am enjoying this application, especially the VLC player and Winamp remotes. I can now change tracks and control my volume while I’m in other rooms in my house without having to run to my PC.

gPad works with and supports both Window PC’s and Macs. You can get more information from the developers website at gpad.mobi. Take a look at the video below for an even more in depth look at this application, you’ll notice just how well this application even works on older devices.
