Apple Awarded Patent for Rectangular Shape with Round Corners

Here we go again. The broken patent system that Apple keeps abusing, has awarded Apple with a patent that involves rectangular shapes with round corners. So no more picture frames??? Not quite. Patent number  D670,286 that appeals to the iPad’s “ornamental” design, which yes, sounds absolutely ridiculous, but it seems like it will not really benefit Apple.

Apple already tried to get a similar patent lawsuit against Samsung, when they claimed that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 infringed on their designs. They were successful at convincing the judge of this, but in August, a jury did not find the Tab 10.1 was infringing on this patent, and we all pointed our fingers and laughed at the devil fruit company. “Unfortunate that patent law can be manipulated to give one company a monopoly over rectangles with rounded corners,” which Samsung responded to Apple’s ridiculous attempt at getting the Tab 10.1 banned.

“This design patent gives Apple no new advantage, because no one is out there trying to market an iPad lookalike,” said Lea Shaver, Associate Professor at Indiana University’s McKinney School of Law told Wired. She is pretty much saying that Apple is just trying to find similar way to get more Samsung, or any other OEM’s  products banned. It is pretty pathetic, but I am sure you are not shocked by this. Apple will still do whatever it takes to take other products down, but as long as these attempts make them look like complete idiots; I am welcome to watch Apple turn red in the face. Let us know what you guys think.
