AT&T Moto X Update To Android 4.4 KitKat Available Now

AT&T Moto XI think it took most people in the Android community by surprise to hear that American carrier Verizon, who’s generally quite infamous for tardy software updates, would be the first to release the Android 4.4 KitKat update to the Motorola Moto X. This was particularly surprising as this update would in fact beat Google’s own OTA KitKat update to the Nexus 4. Well, another American carrier is about to be added to that list as its being reported that AT&T Moto X variants are now also receiving an Android 4.4 OTA update.

This puts another Moto X update ahead of the official Nexus 4 update and it has plenty of people scratching their heads about why this is the case. I’d say this kind of preferential updating has to do with the fact the Nexus 4 is technically not being sold anymore (or at least replenished) but Motorola and Google are still trying to push Moto X sales quite hard. Definitely interesting, but not unexpected if you look at it that way.

This update to the Moto X will of course give it all the KitKat bells and whistles whose features aren’t dissimilar to stock Android’s. Chief among the updates will be to the camera app which has had its fair share of criticisms since its launch. It’s great to see devices being supported so promptly after new Android versions are released and you have to start to think if this union of Motorola and Google is finally paying off for Motorola. Let us know if you get the new update and how you find it.
