Bring Ice Cream Sandwich home on a budget with the new Velocity Micro Cruz Tablets

When one hears about a budget tablet they generally think of extremely low specs, slow laggy operations coupled with an out dated version of Android. Root may exist but custom ROMs for many are few and far between. Doing your homework can help you avoid a lackluster device and wasting not only your time but a small chunk of your change. Not all budget tablets are terrible though and Velocity is looking to prove that you can get a good tablet with out the over inflated price tag.

Velocity has two new tablets headed to market that don’t sound to terrible. First up –

Cruz Tablet T507

  • 7-inch Capacitive screen
  • 1.2 Ghz Cortex A8 Processor
  • 400Mhz ARM Mali GPU
  • 512 MB RAM
  • 8 GB Internal Storage
  • Front-facing camera
  • Android 4.0

Then we have the

Cruz Tablet T510

  • 9.7-inch Capacitive screen
  • 1.2 GHz Cortex A8 Processor
  • 400Mhz ARM Mali GPU
  • 512 MB RAM
  • 8 GB Internal Storage
  • Android 4.0

As you probably already noticed, there isn’t much difference between the two except the screen size. On the bright side though, the specs look fairly descent. Of course specs on a tablet or a phone can be misleading to how well it actually performs. We sure as heck don’t expect them to stack up against a Transformer or Galaxy Tab. For the average user looking to read some books, watch some movies and maybe play a few standard type games though, this could be a good choice.

The 7-inch tablet is suspected to retail for only $150. There is no word yet on what the 10-inch tablet might go for. I can imagine that it should be in the $250 range though. There are definitely downsides to tablets like these though. They don’t come with the Android Market or Google Apps. They do however come with the AmazonApp Store, so it is not a total loss.

Velocity will be in attendance at CES and if we have a chance to swing by and take a look we definitely will.
