Bring the Xperia S UI to your Android device Today

On Friday we shared with you guys a set of files that were available for Xperia Play owners to flash that brought the new look and UI from the Xperia S to your device. It brought over quite a few elements of the UI, but was limited to just one device. None of us like to have limitations like that. Neither did XDA member ra3al . He took the same files and made them capable of being used on any Android device that is currently running Android 2.3 or newer. The package includes the Home launcher, Clock Widget, OnOffTools, Photo Widget and Weather Widget. All current screen resolutions for any device is also supported. Ranging from the lower end 240X320 QVGA to the 720×1280 HD screens.

In earlier versions of this package you needed to snag a file and flash through CWM. The dev has now made it possible to download the Home apk in your devices resolution and the widgets in standalone apks. Making it extremely easy to install and try out with out the need to make a backup of your current ROM first. Once you pick up the appropriate Home.apk and the widgets simply install each as you would with any other third party app. In order to use the widgets you will need to snag the WidgetPicker along with any or all the widgets you wish to try out.

If you happened to have given this install a shot previously via the CWM version you will need to pick up his uninstaller CWM file first and run that. This will clear out any and all apps associated to the Xperia UI so you don’t run into issues with the latest apks. Take a look at a short video below after I installed the files to my Vibrant running Ice Cream Sandwich. It runs pretty smooth and looks pretty good. The lag you may see is due to Screencast set to a high-resolution.

Normally I would say something about being adventurous to try out something like this. Since they are just apk installs and don’t require any flashing, I say just go for it and see what you think. It is kinda fun to check out other UI’s from other devices on the one you currently own with minimal to no risk at all. On a side note, the dev also has the Wallpapers and the Live Wallpaper available for you to pick up while you are at it. Point your browser to ra3al’s XDA thread for all the information needed, changelog and download files, enjoy.
