CES 2015: The Emiota Belty is a self-adjusting belt that loosens after a big meal

Ever cursed yourself after eating a huge meal and not having the foresight to wear pants with a bigger waistline? Curse no more for the Emiota Belty intends to do this for you automatically. Announced by French startup Emiota at CES 2015, the Belty monitors your daily tasks and adjusts your belt tightness based on how much you’ve eaten or whether you’re exercising. It does this thanks to an embedded accelerometer and gyroscope which help to track your overall activity, or I guess, eating.

Wondering how exactly the Belty is able to adjust the belt tightness? A series of motors inside the buckle allow Belty to pull more of the belt to make it tighter, or vice versa, let some of the belt out to loosen it. Other fun fact: you wouldn’t ever need a new belt since the Belty is one size fits all. I know a few people who have rapidly expanding stomachs who would love a product like this (okay, you guessed it: it’s me), though may have to shell out a bit of cash to buy it as Emiota says the Belty is a “high-end product”. That might be a small price to pay after a night at the buffet though.
