Confirmed: Archos G9 tablets will receive Ice Cream Sandwich update in early 2012

Archos has confirmed that their 8 and 10-inch G9 tablets will be getting a treat in the form of Ice Cream Sandwich early next year. While these devices may seem to have all but forgotten as of late, Archos felt it might be time to grace them with a refreshing update that will surely make those of you who own one of these suckers tickled pink.

While there’s no official date for the update’s arrival, Archos is aiming to have Android 4.0 running and ready for public consumption sometime in Q1 2012. There’s still a few things holding them back for now, as hardware acceleration and 3G dongle/port support still need a bit of tweaking. Let’s have a look at the video, shall we?


Both tablets fall into the semi-affordable group, if you’re in the market for a new device. You can scoop up the 8-inch model for $279, while the 10-inch will set you back $356. Here’s a couple of links if you’d like to pick one up:
