CyanogenMod Becomes Cyanogen Inc. with $7 Million Raised in Funding

CyanogenMod is no more, but Cyanogen Inc. is now a thing. As of today, Cyanogen Inc. has become official, and two offices have opened in Seattle and Palo Alto, with 17 employees hired on to get the CM engine rolling. The new company was funded by Benchmark Capital and Redpoint Ventures, and they want to make it easier to get CM on your device. They plan to achieve this by the launching of CM Installer that will be hitting the Play Store very soon. They also have an unnamed hardware partner, which definitely increases the potential of the success of the new company. HTC? How awesome would that be?

Hard to believe that CyanogenMod was just a pretty little ROM we flashed five years ago on our G1 phones. They have taken their talents and worked tirelessly to become the name they are today. Cyanogen Inc. have plans to compete with Android and iOS when it comes to mobile platforms, even though their platform is based on Android. They have no plans to dominate Android, but they would love to be third in line above Windows OS and Blackberry. We have already heard rumors that a Cyanogen phone is in the works, and if HTC does happen to be their unnamed hardware partner; the phone should be pretty successful. With a nice sum of $7 million raised in funding, I see no reason why they will not be successful.
