Forget about the Snapdragon 810; the Snapdragon 820 is set to be the star in the second half of 2015

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor hasn’t even touched the hands of consumers yet, but we’re already hearing about its successor, the Snapdragon 820, thanks to a leak of Qualcomm‘s 2015 release roadmap. The new Snapdragon 820, expected to roll out in the second half of 2015, will employ the new 14nm manufacturing process in what will be their first processors under the new umbrella of “Taipan”, superseding the “Krait” series. Samsung and GlobalFoundries are listed as the manufacturers expected to carry out most of these orders, curiously missing TSMC who is currently producing the Snapdragon 810 using the older 20nm process.

As you might expecting from Qualcomm’s latest and greatest processor, it’s expected to be a beast, including eight cores, Adreno 530 GPU, support for LPDDR4 RAM as well as the usual improvements in performance and power efficiency. That isn’t all to expect from Qualcomm in the tail end of the year, with a Snapdragon 815 rounding out the 800 series, as well as four 600 series processors, the Snapdragon 616, 620, 625, and 629, all mid range processors that would look like high end processors just a year ago. As always with leaks like this, we can’t yet take it as gospel, but they do seem like very believable products given Qualcomm’s previous schedules.
