From the creators of HD Widgets comes DayFrame, photostreams plus a whole lot More

The creators of HD Widgets is hard at work creating something new and interesting for us all to enjoy. Cloud.tv‘s latest creations is called DayFrame and is currently available for Android lovers to preview before it really goes official. Just looking at header image you can probably guess that it sort of turns your device into a digital picture frame. You could say that, but if that is all it did then cloud.tv wouldn’t be creating it. After all, there are more than a few dozen apps on the Play Store that do that, along with just hitting the slideshow button in your gallery. So what makes this app so much more special and worth your time? A whole heck of a lot actually.

 First off, this doesn’t pull and display your photos from your device. At least not in the preview release that we could find. Instead it is a social photo viewer. It connects to your Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr and Flickr accounts and lets you turn on a photo view of what all your friends are sharing. Each account has a different ability based on how the service works out. Like Facebook you get all Facebook photos, Twitter is your home feed, Instagram you can choose Popular and Flickr you can choose Interesting.

 The transitions between photos changes and fades and pans to the next. You can adjust how fast you want the photos to change too, from 5 seconds all the way up to 1 minute. There are a few other settings you can toggle such as if you want the clock, weather, alarm, calendar, battery and voice action to be displayed with a black background, transparent background or turned off entirely. Personally, I like the transparent background. It lets you see more of the picture while still offering up useful information on your screen.

Another awesome feature is the photo feed that you pull from offers up the senders information, how long ago it was posted and likes and various other bits of information. If you just pull up the gallery of the photos from the feeds you can click on an individual one and see all the sender info, message attached, links from the message, like it and share it.

But wait there is more!!! So fun to say that in an infomercial sounding voice. On the bottom right hand side of the app, when the stream is playing, you have this wickedly cool icon to tap. Yes, it is the infamous Google Voice search button. Need to look something up real quick? Maybe send a quick message to someone? Simply, tap the voice command button say what you need and you are off to the races. The app works with various phones and tablets and each device can use various aspects a little differently. The voice commands are really created for use on the Nexus 7 and Jelly Bean devices. After testing it out on an ICS toting Vibrant, it worked out pretty well, but it makes me really see that I need a new phone badly and a kick butt tablet too.

 The app isn’t without its flaws though. You can’t be mad about that though, it is a preview release that offers you guys a chance to check it out, see the progress and play around with it a bit. One of the more annoying things we found was switching from portrait to landscape stopped the stream and took us to a different gallery feed. There were a few times that it didn’t play the feed or would give an error about not being able to display the picture. Those will be solved long before it goes to an official app. We really hope they can get Google+ integrated in there too, but if memory serves me correctly, Google hasn’t made the APIs’s to do integration public. We would also like to see them integrate your own personal photo gallery from your device into the app as well.
