Frostbite will make its foray into mobile platform engines with Frostbite Go

Battlefield and Frostbite engine fans, good news: there has been announcement on the Frostbite website that they will be developing a new engine they’ve dubbed Frostbite Go. Even more exciting is that this engine will used for development on “all major mobile platforms”.

This is a particularly exciting time for mobile gamers with the imminent release of NVIDIA Shield next month and now Frostbite pledging resources to mobile game platforms. Just watch a gameplay video of Battlefield 3 or Battlefield 4 and you’ll see that the Frostbite engines are a thing of great power and beauty and if that is anything to go by, Frostbite Go has the potential to make mobile games enter a new realm of graphical realism. Indie developers might be left out in the cold though as the blurb about Frostbite Go only mentions the availability of the engine to EA developers, but we’ll have to wait for more news to see if this is the case.

I’m very excited by this announcement opens the door to a possible Android version of Battlefield and other games currently being developed for Frostbite Go’s big brother. What do you think about this announcement? Let us know below.
