Give your non-ICS device a taste of the ICS Camera

Here we sit, still wishing, wanting and waiting for the manufactures and carriers to get off their lazy asses and make ICS available to us all. In the mean time, many of you bide your time picking up launchers, themes, icons and other various things to make your device look more like ICS at every install. While looks are great, it is the apps and functionality of ICS that we all crave so much. One new addition that everyone is craving is the camera app. Courtesy of a find by TalkAndroid and developer Moblynx you have a chance to get a little camera action.

The app is called Camera ICS, which makes it easy to find, remember and lets you know what it is without even opening it. It is an improved and more compatible version of the stock camera app you get from ICS. It offer many of the same features, UI, looks and feel of what you saw on the Gnex. The app comes in a free and a paid version. The free version has the inclusion of ads to help support the developer and drive you slightly crazy enough to drop a buck on the full version. Sadly, I only have one device that i can use it on and I am already rocking ICS on it. So of course it works and works well. The app includes the following set of wonderful features –

  • Color effects (mono,sepia,negative,…)
  • Silent mode (no shutter sound)
  • Picture quality setting (low/medium/high/ultra)
  • Video bitrate selection (normal/2x)
  • Video stabilization on/off (only 4.0)
  • 720p face effects (only 4.0)
  • Panorama mode and time-lapse video on Honeycomb tablets

As you can see, some of the special features are limited to Android 4.0 and Honeycomb 3.2. That shouldn’t stop you from giving the free version a test though. They recently just updated the application to support Gingerbread and Froyo devices. As for improvements to an already great camera base, Camera ICS lets you configure the volume keys for zooming, auto focus, shutter, or a combination of auto focus and shutter. Which makes for a great photo taking experience.

Give it shot when you have a chance and let us know what you think. You can find the QR code below for both the free version and the paid version.
