Google and ASUS aiming for second gen Nexus 7 with Full HD display and thinner Bezel

And the crowd goes wild! All of you Nexus 7 owners and lovers out there are probably ready for the second generation of the tablet to finally be available. While we love what we have in our hands now, we want what is next even more. We expect Google to stick with ASUS for the Nexus tablet line, at least for a while. A new report making its way across the web indicates a May release for the next Nexus 7. Most likely during Google I/O, which is May 15th – 17th. Apparently Engineering samples are already floating around in the hands of the right people and sources are starting to get the chatter going.

A source at Digitimes says the new Nexus 7 will be priced accordingly with the current versions available. The launch will put then in consumer hands for $199-$249. Several specification changes will of course be made. Among the changes, the device will have a thinner bezel, an industrial design and a Full HD resolution display. We assume they mean 1080p of course. As always, it will launch with what ever the newest Android OS version is at the time. Since Google usually does an OS update in the Spring, these could launch with a newer version of Jelly Bean, or even the elusive Key Lime Pie. (or whatever it will be)

May is a long ways away. Between now and then we are sure to start hearing more spec chatter and maybe even a few image leaks.
