Google’s Android Enjoys Strong Third Quarter

According to comScore, Google’s Android pulled out strong in the third quarter of this year, gaining 6.5 percent in its share of U.S smartphone users since the second quarter, giving it a total of 21.4 percent growth. Unlike Apple, the biggest competitor of Android, which didn’t move on the growth scale and stayed at a mere 24.3 percent of subscribers.

With the popularity of Android growing the way it is, comScore expects that it will pass Apple’s market share by the end of this year. Android will then become the second largest smartphone platform next to Blackberry.
ComScore states that it doesn’t take into consideration the other devices that Apple has out, such as the iPod touch, and the iPad. This could mean that Apple will remain number one.
On a much lighter note, Microsoft saw a decrease of 10 percent in their share of smartphone users. It may increase over time but, for now with the release of Windows Phone 7 still new, it is uncertain.
