HTC EVO Shift 4G Getting Gingerbread Update – OTA June 20th, Manual Update Now

Sprint has just announced an update for the QWERTY toting member of the EVO line, the Shift 4G. Among the many enhancements this update brings the biggest and most notable is the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) software, which will bring this handset up to date with the most recent offerings available.

HTC EVO Shift Maintenance Release – Android 2.3 (2.75.651.4)

 

Enhancements/Fixes:

– Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)

– Download management application providing easier access to downloaded files

– On-screen keyboard supporting multi-touch and smart auto-correction

– Improved cut/paste functionality

– Updated camera application

– Swype

– Corrected streaming media issue

Normally these updates are announced a few days out from the actual release, and in this case the same is true. The OTA Gingerbread update will start rolling out June 20th, however another option has been included for the more impatient people. For those users wishing to grab the update now you can do so by visiting Menu/Settings/System updates/HTC software Update from the home screen on your phone. Congratulations EVO Shift 4G owners, you favorite toy is now new again.
