INQ Cloud Q Android device scrapped before it ever had a Chance

Some of you may know a company called INQ Mobile. They are a British phone peddler that launched a device called the INQ Cloud Touch. It was well received with some favorable reviews. They showed off a new device at Mobile World Congress last year in February dubbed the Cloud Q. It was styled to look a lot like a Blackberry with a ful QWERTY keyboard located right below a 2.6-inch touchscreen. Granted the device was scheduled to launch with Android 2.2, it was still a unique design that gave Blackberry design lovers a chance to get on Android and not sacrifice their much-loved keyboard.

The Cloud Q was supposed to be launched before the end of 2011, and if you were waiting for it to finally land overseas, you will want to stop looking. Seems as though INQ Mobile has scrapped the device and the project.

“After a lot of analysis through the back end of 2011 we made a tough decision to pull the Cloud Q from the INQ roadmap to focus efforts on our future products,” said a spokesperson for INQ. No word on what exactly prompted for the company to scrap the project, but the spokes person said it was the “right one”, referring to the decision to pull the project.

One can only hope it was due to the amount of time it took for them to get the device to market. It took to long for a device running a 2 year old version of Android to be released. Hopefully they scrapped it in favor of newer and faster hardware coupled with a newer and better Android OS, ICS maybe. Future plans and devices are still tight lipped. There is a possiblility that they will make an appearance at MWC coming up this February though, which would be a good time to unveil what they have been working on. Sadly though there is no confirmation of this and it is looking like a new release won’t be announced until later this year.
