Looks Like Apple Will Be Powering Their Next-Gen iPhones With Samsung Chips

apple-vs-samsungWe all know that Samsung and Apple probably don’t have the best relationship; on paper, they compete in basically every category that matters and that doesn’t seem to be abating any time soon. One lesser know fact, or perhaps just ignored for arguments sake, is that Samsung has actually supplied Apple with 20mm nano A8 chips up until last year.

In a move that could only have been sound business sense, Apple had tried to move away from relying on Samsung for core technologies, by signing with chip-maker competitor, TSMC, late last year. But as Samsung has been powering ahead with developing 14mm nano A9 chips, it looks as though that dependency will be coming again soon.

The Korea Economic Daily has reported that Apple has signed an agreement with Samsung to provide 14mm chips to Apple starting in 2015, which is likely to be the powerhouse for the eventual iPhone 7. Whether you think this is poetic justice or irony, it can’t be denied that although Samsung’s fortunes are beginning to slow, its ability to influence and be depended on in the technological space is an indication that it will be around for quite a while longer.
