Motorola ACTV gets the root treatment, now give’s you a mini tablet on your Wrist

The MOTOACT is one of those odd, yet somewhat compelling little devices that we see no real need for, but just want to have for some reason. For the tech junkie it isn’t about what the device was designed for or able to do out of the box, it is what it can do and how to push the limits of the device. After all, it is running Android which means it can do more than what it was launched doing. Seems there is no limit to what these devs can get their grubby little codes cooking on.

Taking the fitness meter/music player/watch to a whole new level of enjoyment. CMW was able to exploit the OTA update code and files, extract a copy of the boot image and enable ADB in it. Flash it through fastboot (the bootloader isn’t locked), connect via ADB and a run a standard exploit against the system. There is a full instruction list located at CMW for you to take advantage of. You can even snag up the Google Apps from Cyanogen mod and get those loaded too. To top it of, looks like you can even play some Angry Birds on your wrist. Talk about pointlessly cool.

I bet Motorola never thought anything like this would happen to their lovely little fitness watch. Lets see if they leave this one alone or if they dump countless man hours into an update to block this. Good work Chris!!
