Motorola Grabs Patent for Tattoo…on Your Throat

Think these companies don’t want to turn us into robots? Motorola certainly wants to up the game by turning a human being into a machine. Moto just sent in a patent application to the US Patent Offices, for a new electronic tattoo concept. Who would not want to get themselves a tattoo on their throat?

An electronic skin tattoo to affix to a body surface for providing auxiliary voice input to a mobile communication device, comprising: a microphone; a transceiver for wireless communication with the mobile communication device; a power supply; and a controller coupled to the power supply, the transceiver and the microphone, the controller operable to receive an initialization signal from the mobile communication device to initiate reception of an audio stream picked up from the microphone and transmit via the transceiver audio signals for the mobile communication device.

And further states:

An auxiliary voice input for a mobile communication device, including an electronic tattoo comprising: an adhesive capable of affixing to a body surface; a microphone for detecting audio; a transceiver for wireless communication with the mobile communication device; a signal processor coupled to the transceiver and the microphone, and operable for comparing received audio signal output by the microphone to a predetermined pattern, and control transmission of an initialization signal to the mobile communication device as a wake-up.

That is as “hands-free” as hands-free can get. I guess the tattoo will also have the ability to tell if you are lying or not. It will be able to measure your heart-rate, obviously through sensors in that tattoo that are pressed up right against your pulse. That is too much power given in the wrong hands.

No word on how far along this technology is. I can’t imagine them being anywhere close to being in the late stages of development. I am sure we will start hearing more about it in the coming years. Let us know your thoughts about this.
