Motorola Tags Along with Android and Jumps on Profits

Motorola has been raising the bar on profits since they bet strongly on Android powered phones. Their mobile unit had, in this last quarter, a revenue increase of 20% to $2 billion.

The company’s plans to launch 20 Android-based smartphones in the beginning of the year have been surpassed as they have now already released 22 devices and, in this quarter alone, they shipped 3.8 million smartphones.

The main stars of this increase are the Droid X and Droid 2, the holiday season flag devices, on Verizon Wireless, but many other carriers, AT&T included, are betting on Motorola’s devices.

By the beginning of next year, Motorola will witness a split, with half being the mobile devices and home businesses, with Co-Chief Executive Officer Sanjay Jha running it, and the other half will have Co-CEO Greg Brown with the responsibility of managing the enterprise and mobility arm.

We hope that with this split, Motorola continues to have a “strong arm” on the Android market.
