[New App] A-WAL, a widget app launcher that looks cool and works Well

Some people out there are extreme widgets heads, David. Along with loving widgets comes the desire to have widgets that look good and serve a purpose. Not just something flashy, shiny and new. There have been apps in the past that let you create an on screen widget to launch applications. I can picture one in my mind that I used often but can’t for the life of me remember what it is. When you see what A-WAL is and does maybe it will jog someones memory.

What the heck is A-WAL anyways? Well, A-WAL is an application created by Andreas Rudolph. It is a free app in the market that lets you create a widget for your home screen. The widget is in 4X2 format that gets placed on your home screen. When you add the widget for the first time you are auto-prompted to put what you want in it. You can create new folders for specific applications, like all your social apps, maps, games or what have you. You can alter the background color and text color that appears below the image for the application. What made me really like the application is the market integration that it uses. You can of course use your own images in the widget for your applications, but you can also have the app ‘fetch’ the super cool looking banners that most application developers use at the top of the market page. Making your widgets and applications look really sweet.

As for navigation? Well, that still is a bit desirable. The widget doesn’t scroll to the next app or have any super cool effect. Instead you have to ta on the arrow keys located next to the folder/app,dev name that gets listed. On the plus side though, you can add as many apps to a particular folder of your choosing, or just make one nice looking banner app widget for one app. The choice is up to you. Take a look at the screen shots below to see if it looks like something you are interested in messing with. If it is, hit up the QR code by clicking or scanning it to go pick up the app for a test run.
