Could This Be The Nexus 5 Passing Through The FCC?

nexus 5You might have seen our post on the day Android 4.4 KitKat was announced that showed the fateful video that unintentionally (or intentionally) showed us a shot of a man holding what looked a lot like a Nexus smartphone that we’d never seen before. As it was conveniently spotted next to a Nexus 4 and appeared slightly larger, it is now the consensus that this device is most likely the unannounced Nexus 5 device we’ve been waiting for.

The jury is still out on who the manufacturer is (I still don’t believe the blurry pictures), but it appears that hasn’t stopped it potentially being seen at the FCC today. While there’s actually not a whole lot regarding general details about the phone, some clever boffins have pieced together evidence that definitely suggests the phone in pieces in the photo above is in fact the Nexus 5.

Some of this evidence includes the fact that the screen on this phone will be 4.96-inches (or as close to a nice round 5 as we care to notice) and another has uncovered that the software version running on the device is “aosp_hammerhead-userdebugKyeLimePieFACTORYeng.sangjoon84.lee.20130618.0151”. You will notice that in that software name are the words “KyeLimePie”, possibly a lingering in-joke name for Android 4.4 KitKat that the Google engineers who worked on the software have left.

So there you have it: what is likely the Nexus 5 which will be running Android 4.4 KitKat. What are your thoughts about this? Are you convinced this is the Nexus 5, or are you still skeptical? Let us know what you think.
