HTC Passion (Google Nexus One) Rooted Already!

Before the Hardware is even release to the public, the HTC Nexus One (a.k.a Google Phone) has already been rooted by Paul over on Modaco.  He has created a modified BOOT image he is calling SuperBoot.

Superboot is a boot.img that when flashed, will root your device the first time you boot (installing su and the superuser APK). No need to flash the system partition, no need to use ADB, no messing with the contents of your data partition, no overwriting the shipped ROM on your device, just flash the boot image using the instructions below and you’re done!

APPLY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Superboot – download

The Superboot is currently in testing phase and is untested by me as I do not yet have a Nexus One – let’s work on this together! As such, I haven’t packaged it into the usual Superboot installer archive, the download is just the image file. To test, do NOT flash using ‘fastboot flash’, instead run ‘fastboot boot nexusone.superboot.1.1.img’ from bootloader. I have been told the Nexus One has an unlocked bootloader, hence this approach should work! Only flash it if it works!

Once we have a working build i’ll repack in the usual way and the instructions below will apply.

Enjoy! smile.gif
