Optus Turns On Permanent Mobile Coverage At Mt Sylvia In The Lockyer Valley

optusFor many in Queensland, Australia, 2011 is a year that brings up memories of an extremely trying time, none more so than the towns in the Lockyer Valley who were suddenly and devastatingly victim to the flooding that year. Thankfully, telco provider Optus acted quickly to support the area with satellite phones and a temporary mobile facility to restore communications in the region, but it was clear this temporary arrangement could only last so long.

As a result, Optus has installed its first 3G mobile tower in Mt Sylvia that will restore permanent mobile coverage to that area of the Lockyer Valley. The tower is due to be officially launched today.

It’s a great step forward for Optus, who has traditionally lagged behind Telstra in rural mobile coverage, but most of all it’s a great result for the residents of the Lockyer Valley who can add another notch of certainty to their belts.
