There has been a lot of discussion about improving Android’s multitasking UI lately. The Paranoid Android team have been working on their own multi-window implementation for its ROM.
The team mentions previous attempts at multi-window implementations, with most failing to gain traction. CyanogenMod tried to add a service called “Cornerstone” back in February 2012, but was ultimately shut down by Google. Cornerstone works from a side bar on the right of the screen and, when prompted, loads applications from two additional panels. Samsung’s multi-window service allows users to run two apps side-by-side, but only works with a small selection of s-apps.
Paranoid Android posted a demo video on Google+ showcasing the interaction with multiple apps. The team states that the video shows less than 10 percent of overall functionality, but we can expect many more updates to come.
