[Review] Trident Electra Series Cases – Power and Protection That Can’t be Beat

I have never been big on cases nor extended batteries. When it comes to my ultra thin Vibrant, I don’t want anything to bulk it up. There is a place for cases and for extended batteries though. often times you need to buy them separately. Not with the Elektra series cases from Trident. You get the best of both worlds in one package. Plus an added bonus.

The case comes in 4 pieces. The main shell that will clip around your device, a rubberized outer ring for a comfort grip and the extended battery. In the Vibrant’s case, it takes your from the stock 1500 mAh battery and replaces it with a 2650 mAh battery. The rear of the case provides slots for your speaker phone and your camera. The front of this case offers the audio slot, sensor slot and if you had a Vibrant 4G, a hole for your from facing camera.

I am not to sure if you can notice in the pictures, but there is also a screen protector built into the case. It is called a PET screen. It protects from scratches, fingerprints and smudges. On the top you have plugs that protect your headphone jack and USB port. On each side are rubberized buttons that slip through the hard shell to allow you access to volume and power. The main case is made from a high impact-resistant polycarbonate and double-enforced with a shock absorbing silicone outer-ring. You  can see the red battery through the rear panel and its multitude of holes. I am fairly sure that is just a design element, but it may also help keep the battery cool.

As far as its size is concerned, you can easily see from the photos above that it just over doubles your device thickness.

As far as the extended battery is concerned, it does its job and does it well. on a stock battery I am able to average 10 -12 hours of life. That will vary per person per apps and usage of course. Once I hooked this all up to my device, gave it a full charge and wiped battstats (I am rooted) I was able to pull 24 hours out of the battery. Again, individual results will vary. Figure out your average battery life and you can easily expect safely a 75%  battery increase. On the other side of the coin, expect a larger battery to take longer to reach 100% while charging.

This is the first case I have ever used that has stayed attached to my device for more than a week. If that says anything about how solid it is and how helpful the extended battery is. There are only 2 cons that I have run into with this case.

1. My JLab J4M head phones have a square box at the plug, the case has a round hole to access your jack. They don’t fit so well.

2. Taking it apart to get to your battery is a pretty big task. I ended up grabbing a butter knife. Not sure that is really a con, but if you need to reboot your device by pulling the battery, expect the case to fight you every step of the way.

This is easily the greatest case I have ever seen or had the pleasure of utilizing and sharing. I do know they have this series of case for the Vibrant, Vibrant 4G, Fascinate, Evo 4G and Droid X/X2.  If you want to check out Trident and their Electra series cases visit them at their website TridentCases.com.
