[Rumor] WiFi XOOMS testing ICS?? Might just be happening sooner than we Think?

It should come as no surprise that the one update that nearly everyone around the world is waiting on is Ice Cream Sandwich. Of course the source for the update hasn’t been out all that long and we all know how slow OEM’s and carriers are at making sure they can add their flare and bloatware to it before it gets an OTA. Hopefully many of them will see the benefit of making some updates that work well as fast as possible. It would spur up sells of their current devices.

It appears the Motorola might be one of the first OEM’s to start testing an ICS update very shortly. Or so it might seem. Quite a few emails have been sent out to holders on the WiFi XOOM, which is pretty much Google Experience device, alerting them to a tests that will begin soon for their devices. They keep what the test is rather hush-hush and we have no idea what they are planning.

It would make sense to test out an update to ICS on a tablet that is actually updated by Google. If tests go well, it would roll out to all WiFi versions and should land on the Verzion LTE version as soon as Verizon and Motorola approve it. That could take a while though.

At this time we can only speculate what the ‘tests’ will involve. It could be ICS, it could be just new features and modifications to the current Android version already installed. When an email like the one received by some starts being sent, it is all hopes and dreams until users start reporting what is going on.

If it is an ICS update test soak, and everything goes well, would this entice you to pick up a WiFi XOOM? Maybe you are putting you money on ASUS and an update to the Prime or original Transformer. What do you guys think? Could Google and Motorola be stepping up their game and trying to make things better finally?

Hi,

Thanks for joining the Motorola Feedback Network. We are preparing a project for owners of the “Google Experience Device” version of the WiFi-only Motorola Xoom. (This is the U.S. version only.) If you own this particular model, we would like to invite you to participate.

Click this link to take a short enrollment survey for this project. Please note that you must be a member in good standing of the Motorola Owners’ Forums to take part. We have recently moved our forums communities to a new site, and YOU MUST RE-REGISTER to be considered a member. Please visit our new site and complete your registration update if you have not done so already. Be sure to fill out the MFN opt-in information on the new site.

This is a confidential project under the terms of the Motorola Feedback Network. Do not post any details or information about this project on any public sites.

Thanks — please understand that project start times are always fluid. We ask for your patience if you register but don’t hear from us right away.
