Samsung partners with Yahoo

Yahoo has announced partnership with Samsung to provide Yahoo! services to Samsung devices potentially starting at soon as the release of the Samsung Galaxy S next month:

“By making our most popular Yahoo! services available on Samsung mobile devices around the world, we’re providing consumers with personally relevant mobile Internet experiences that make it easy for them to stay connected to what’s important to them and explore the full potential of their device,” said David Ko, senior vice president, Audience, Mobile and Local for Yahoo!. “We’re thrilled to deepen our relationship with Samsung and look forward to continuing to drive the global adoption of mobile Internet services.”

Similar to how Google streamlines it’s services on most Android phones today, Yahoo! aims to do the same with Samsung phones, even possibly having devices come preloaded with services like Mail, Flickr, Finance, and Weather, among others.

This is great news in the spirit of keeping Android open. However, with Samsung going to Yahoo! and AT&T already using Yahoo!, I have to wonder when the OS fragmentation issue is resolved, if service fragmentation will be the next barrier.
